Hot Water vs Cold Water
Cold water is great for everyday dirt and mud you're removing and don't have to put a lot of work into removing. Hot water comes into play for the tough to remove grease, grime, built on messes. Hot water is an additional expense, but its additional working power that can cut your cleaning time down substantially.
Which matters more? GPM or PSI?
This question is commonly asked and can make quite the difference in your washing game! GPM (Gallons per Minute) you're able to clean larger areas with your larger volume (GPM) of water in less time. PSI (Pressure per Square Inch) will provide your GPM with the pressure it needs, so it acts as the force behind your volume of water. Both GPM & PSI play a critical role in washing, which is why we are here to help you choose the right machine for your washing job.
Belt Drive vs Direct Drive
The choice between direct drive and belt drive for your pump may bring up some additional questions? Which is better? The main difference between the two is how it is connected to the motor. Direct drive is connected directly to the motor or engine, sharing the same drive shaft. Belt drive pumps are connected to the motor with a belt and pulley design. Both machines can have benefits, belt drive can make priming your pump easier and quicker if you have variable water supply situations. Direct drive units can be noisy at high RPMS. Our EXP Sales team can help you decide on what works best for your cleaning operation.
Portable vs Stationary
This comes down to preferences. Both styles of units are great and have great cleaning powers. Stationary units offer additional options that 4 wheel units do not, such as shut down options, straight hook up to your gas line and water source and additional options. While 4 wheel units offer versatility such as the unit being mobile (within your electrical cord and water source) and more compact not taking up as much footprint in your shop. Both styles of units are sold frequently at Express Pressure Washers.
Pressure Washer Tip. Color vs Tip Size
Your tip size is not determined by the color of the tip. The color you see on the tip ONLY signifies your spray pattern: Yellow=15 degree spray pattern, Green=25 degree spray pattern, White=40 degree spray pattern and Red=0 degree spray pattern. Those are options for your pressure washer. What is not an option is your tip SIZE, this varies for each machine, to small of tip will cause issues and to large of tip will drop your pressure, . There are over 10 different tip sizes to choose from. Let us help you figure out what size tip your pressure washer needs.
How long will my Alkota last?
Alkota Pressure Washers are simple long lasting machines. When ran properly, these machines can last several years (we have customers that have had theirs over 43 years). Some regular things to do for your hot water machine=cooling down your machine after running it on hot, this prevents the coil from scaling up, using kerosene or number 1 diesel for the burner= this option burns cleaner and saves you money on repair bills and winterizing your machine if it is in cold storage in the winter months could save you thousands= if it is not winterized the coil could split, pistons could crack among several other issues. Checking the oil on your hot and cold water pressure washer will help with longevity of your machine. Cold water pressure washers should also be winterized if stored in cold storage through winter months. We have helpful videos and a service department that can help with winterizing your pressure washer.
